Tottenham Women face Brighton in Players Cup after Villa win

by Alex Matthews

Tottenham Women face Brighton in the Subway Players Cup at Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday 30 September. Kick-off is 7pm UK time, with live coverage on SPURSPLAY, according to Tottenham’s official preview.

Martin Ho wants his side to carry their winning mentality into the cup after Sunday’s 4-0 Women’s Super League victory over Aston Villa. However, he has also warned that Spurs will need to defend well against Brighton’s attacking threat.

Tottenham Women face their second cup test

This is Spurs’ second match in the competition’s league phase. They drew 0-0 with West Ham in their opener before losing the penalty shoot-out. Bristol City, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town are also on Tottenham’s league-phase schedule.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Women face a Brighton side that began its cup campaign with a 4-0 win against Charlton. Spurs’ preview says the Seagulls are still looking for their first WSL victory, having lost narrowly to Arsenal and London City Lionesses.

Therefore, league form alone does not tell Tottenham Women the full story of this tie. Brighton already have a cup win, while Tottenham are seeking a first league-phase victory of their own.

Ho wants the same intent against Brighton

Speaking to club media on Tuesday, Ho said: “The intention is always to go out and win and we’ll do the same going into Wednesday.” He explained that wins help build confidence and morale, but stressed that his players must apply themselves correctly.

The Tottenham Women head coach also pointed to Brighton’s pressing and their ability to move quickly through transitions. In addition, Ho highlighted their individual attacking quality and their mix of experienced and younger players.

As a result, his message was about both ends of the pitch. Spurs need to protect their own box and make use of the chances they create, rather than assume Sunday’s result will carry them through.

Tottenham Women build on the Villa win

Tottenham Women recorded 35 attempts at goal in the 4-0 win over Villa, according to the club. The Tottenham Women head coach described that display as the best of his time in charge. Nevertheless, Tottenham Women face a different opponent on Wednesday and a different competition. This preview does not confirm a starting line-up or make an injury claim. Team selection should be checked against Tottenham’s matchday announcement.

For Tottenham Women supporters following from home, the confirmed details in the club preview are Broadfield Stadium, Wednesday evening, 7pm UK and SPURSPLAY coverage. No ticket availability is claimed here.
