Shekiera Martinez scored a hat-trick as Tottenham Women beat Bristol City 6-1 in the Subway Players Cup. Jess Naz also returned to match action, coming off the bench for her first appearance in almost 11 months.

Olivia Holdt, Signe Gaupset and Matilda Nilden joined Martinez on the scoresheet. Rio Hardy replied for Bristol City, but Spurs restored their grip after the break and finished with a clear margin of victory.

Tottenham Women build an early lead

Martinez opened the scoring in the 14th minute. She ran onto Amanda Nilden’s pass and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy.

Five minutes later, Eveliina Summanen squared the ball for Holdt to finish after a passing move. Martinez then scored her second in the 24th minute, converting from a tight angle after Brzykcy had saved Matilda Nilden’s initial shot.

Gaupset supplied the fourth with a long-range lob in the 41st minute. Bristol City answered a minute later through Hardy, who finished from close range after Spurs failed to clear a delivery from the left.

Martinez completes her hat-trick

Spurs did not allow that reply to change the course of the match. Matilda Nilden restored the four-goal cushion in the 49th minute, running onto Holdt’s through ball and finishing low into the corner.

She had further chances as Tottenham continued to attack. Martinez also drew a save before completing her treble in the 78th minute, heading in at the near post from Lenna Gunning-Williams’ cross.

Matilda Vinberg went close late on, but Spurs already had the goals they needed. The result gave them a second successive win in the competition.

Jess Naz returns for Tottenham Women

Our earlier report on Naz being back in contention covered her return to squad consideration. This time she played.

Naz came on in the 63rd minute after a long spell out following the anterior cruciate ligament injury she suffered last December. Her introduction was a return to competitive action, rather than simply a return to the matchday squad.

That moment gave the travelling supporters another reason to celebrate alongside the six goals. Spurs’ official report describes it as her first appearance in almost 11 months.

Other changes included Gunning-Williams, who entered at half-time and later supplied the cross for Martinez’s third goal. Spurs were able to use their bench while continuing to create chances.

What the Bristol City win means

Tottenham’s report says the victory moved them to sixth in the 23-team Players Cup table after three matches. That is the position reported at the end of the game, rather than a claim about the standings after any later fixtures.

The performance combined an early attacking spell with a strong response to Bristol City’s goal. Martinez’s finishing led the result, while Naz’s return added a separate positive for the squad.
