Leeds 1-0 Tottenham: Okafor ends Spurs’ winning run

Leeds 1-0 Tottenham: Noah Okafor’s late goal at Elland Road ended Spurs’ three-match Premier League winning run.

Okafor scored in the 79th minute, shortly after coming on, to settle a match in which Spurs had chances but Leeds pushed them back for long spells after the break.

Jan Paul van Hecke almost rescued a point at the end, only for James Trafford to turn his header away. There was also an injury concern for Roberto De Zerbi, with Mathys Tel forced off before half-time.

Leeds 1-0 Tottenham: visitors hold out before the break

The Tottenham team news ahead of Leeds had confirmed Bentancur was available after his three-match suspension. De Zerbi brought Pedro Porro back into the starting side, with Bentancur among the substitutes.

Leeds began with pressure in front of their home support, but Tottenham came through the opening exchanges and grew into the first half. Omar Marmoush and Mohammed Kudus both tested Trafford without finding a way past the Leeds goalkeeper.

The main talking point came when Jayden Bogle challenged Tel shortly after the half-hour mark. VAR reviewed the incident without a red card being shown. Tel tried to continue after treatment, but Dominic Solanke replaced him in the 43rd minute.

Kinsky saves keep Tottenham level

Leeds were more dangerous after the interval. Solanke blocked an effort on the line, while Ao Tanaka sent a close-range chance over the bar.

De Zerbi made a triple change in the 65th minute, introducing Conor Gallagher, Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. Gallagher then went close with a low effort that passed wide after a Tottenham move.

Spurs relied on Antonin Kinsky to keep the scores level. The goalkeeper tipped over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s volley before making another important save when Sean Longstaff turned and shot inside the area.

Those stops kept Spurs in the game, but Leeds found the breakthrough when Daniel Farke turned to his own bench.

Leeds 1-0 Tottenham: Okafor settles the contest

Okafor and Harry Wilson came on in the 77th minute. Two minutes later, Wilson’s flick found his fellow substitute, who finished past Kinsky from inside the box.

Tottenham pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages. Their best late opportunity fell to Van Hecke, but Trafford turned his header away to preserve Leeds’ lead.

The result stopped Spurs making it four league wins in succession. Their next Premier League match is at home to Ipswich Town on 21 November.

De Zerbi awaits Tel checks

After the match, De Zerbi said Tel needed medical checks before the club could establish the extent of his ankle injury.

“Mathys had a bad injury on the ankle. We need to make a medical check to understand the situation,” he told SPURSPLAY.

The manager added that the club expected to know more the following day. No diagnosis or return date was confirmed in the club’s update.
