Bentancur suspension: Premier League lists Spurs midfielder for GW7-9

by Alex Matthews

Rodrigo Bentancur is listed as suspended for Gameweeks 7 to 9 in the Premier League’s latest disciplinary update following his red card against Manchester United.

The Bentancur suspension is recorded in the league’s official list, last updated on 11th October. It gives Tottenham a three-gameweek absence to plan around after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Bentancur suspension listed for GW7-9

The Premier League’s table names Bentancur as Tottenham’s suspended midfielder and specifies “GW7-9”. That is the current published league status rather than an estimate based only on the dismissal.

The update also explains that red-card suspensions cover the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup. Yellow-card accumulation works differently: Premier League bookings are not carried over to either domestic cup.

Those distinctions matter when following the Bentancur suspension. The official entry gives the gameweek range; it should not be treated as a separate statement about Tottenham’s European selection.

Red card followed confrontation at United

Tottenham’s official match report describes Bentancur receiving a straight red card after a confrontation with Luke Shaw. Referee Stuart Attwell dismissed the midfielder after he was adjudged to have moved his head towards the United defender.

The Bentancur suspension follows that incident, which left Spurs down to 10 men while trailing to Bryan Mbeumo’s opener. Dominic Solanke then headed in Sandro Tonali’s delivery in added time to rescue a point.

Tottenham face midfield selection change

Roberto De Zerbi will need to account for the Bentancur suspension in his domestic plans. The league’s list does not name a replacement or announce Tottenham’s next starting side.
