Spurs loanee Jamie Donley started and played 77 minutes as Northern Ireland won 3-0 away to Ukraine in the Nations League on Friday night. The result put his side top of Group B2.
Ciaron Brown scored twice and Isaac Price added the other goal in Trnava, Slovakia. Ukraine play their home games there because of the war. Jamie Donley, 21, won his 13th cap, according to Tottenham’s official report.
How the night went for Jamie Donley
He had the first effort of the game. He swept a shot wide of the post in the third minute, the Irish FA match report says.
Jamie Donley was also involved in the opening goal. On nine minutes, however, captain Trai Hume sent a corner to the back post. Ruairi McConville headed it towards goal. The ball went through Donley’s legs and Brown poked it in.
Price headed in a second on 22 minutes from a Kieran Morrison cross. Brown added his second on the hour. The Irish FA described “incredible defensive discipline” while Ukraine had most of the possession.
What the result means for Jamie Donley’s side
Northern Ireland now have seven points from three games. Meanwhile, Hungary are second on four, with Ukraine third on goal difference and Georgia on one point.
Jamie Donley and his Northern Ireland team-mates won away to Georgia in their opener. They then drew 0-0 with Hungary in Belfast, so this was another strong result. Next up is Georgia on Monday 5 October.
